MCV (Mean Corpuscular Volume) measures the average size of your red blood cells. It's usually included as part of a full blood count and helps your GP work out the likely cause of anaemia — for example, whether cells are smaller than normal (often linked to iron deficiency) or larger than normal (often linked to vitamin B12 or folate deficiency).
