Carpal tunnel syndrome causes numbness or tingling in the thumb, index, middle and ring fingers, along with hand or wrist pain that's often worse at night, weaker grip, and difficulty with fine hand movements. When conservative treatment hasn't been enough, a decompression procedure relieves the pressure on the median nerve at the wrist to ease these symptoms. The procedure is generally quick and can usually be performed under local anaesthetic. Most patients notice an improvement in symptoms as the nerve pressure is relieved.
