Overview
About this service
Point of care ultrasound lets your GP carry out real-time imaging during your consultation, rather than sending you off for a separate scanning appointment. It can help assess muscle injuries, abdominal pain, joint problems and certain cardiac issues, giving you results and next steps on the spot instead of waiting days for a report. Because it can also guide procedures such as needle aspiration or joint injections, POCUS often reduces the need for onward referral to another specialist just for imaging. Exams typically take 10–30 minutes depending on what's being assessed, with everything explained to you before you leave.

- No separate scanning appointment needed
